Cyclical disparity on catch configuration and effects of fishing gears on fish production of north-western part of the Chalan Beel, Bangladesh

This study provides an overview of the seasonal variation on catch composition, pattern gear used and their effects fish production management system north-western part Chalan beel. Results revealed that annual beel cycle can be divided into four phases namely, resting, preparatory, growing decay. Harvesting fishes in chalan was done by using a variety fishing gears. A total 27 different types gears were recorded during investigation period from area Recorded categorized three major which net, trap wounding gear. Marked observed use mostly dependent flooding water depths 62 species this including 51 indigenous 11 exotic species. Fishes under following 12 orders-Cypriniformes, Siluriformes, Perciformes, Channiformes, Mastacembeliformes, Clupeiformes, Osteoglossiformes, Cyprinodontiformes, Anguiliformes, Synbranchiformes, Beloniformes Tetraodontiformes. Some like Shuti jal, Current Khora Ber jal/Badai jal some traps specialized methods identified as very harmful to sustainable well wild brood stock these natural bodies. About 8 threatened due irresponsible fishing. Overall level not satisfactory ranged 350-400 kg/ha/yr.
